Losing 2% of bodyweight to dehydration, could affect your endurance performance by 45% (Human kinetics, 2018)
The key… Don’t wait until you are thirsty!
Hydration = Performance
Your body relies on water for thermoregulation, cardiovascular function and energy metabolism. Even small losses can impact strength, endurance and focus.
On average a sedentary adult should drink at least 1.5l of water per day to maintain optimal water balance. The minimum requirement can change due to factors such as climate, diet and of course physical activity.
I hear you ask, you are a chiropractor, why do you care about my water intake? Well (no pun intended), every move you make, every lift, sprint, jump, happens becuase electrical signals called action potentials fire through your body.
Dehydration = slower signal transmission
When you are under-hydrated, those elcetrical impluses don’t travel as efficiently.
Resulting in less power, less strength, less endurance and slower reactions
If the signal isn’t firing fast enough, you can’t perform at your best!
So hydration isn’t just about thirst, it is about neurological performance.
Stay Hydrated! Stay Powerful!
